SunCamel Limited – E‑Bike Rental Terms & Conditions

These Terms & Conditions apply to all e‑bike rentals from SunCamel Limited ("SunCamel", "we", "us", "our"). By booking or hiring an e‑bike, you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions.

2. Eligibility & Rider Requirements

  • The minimum age to hire an e‑bike is 18 years.
  • All riders must present a valid driver licence at the time of hire.
  • Helmets are provided and must be worn at all times while riding.
  • One rider per bike only. Passengers, child seats, and trailers are not permitted.

SunCamel reserves the right to refuse hire to any person deemed unfit to ride safely.


3. E‑Bike Types & Legal Use

  • All bikes provided by Suncamel are NZ road legal and compliant to e-bike regulations to be able to be used in public space.

By hiring an e‑bike, the rider acknowledges they are responsible for:

  • Understanding applicable NZ laws and regulations
  • Riding only where legally permitted
  • Any fines, penalties, or legal consequences arising from misuse

4. Hire Periods & Pricing

Hire options include:

  • Hourly: $45 per hour
  • Half Day: $80
  • Full Day: $120
  • 2 days: $200
  • One Week: $500

Hire periods commence and conclude at the agreed times.

Late Returns

  • Late return policy, grace period, and late fees:
  • If you are going to be late please contact us on 027 564 5263 ASAP otherwise the following late charges apply:
    • Hourly: $45 per hour
    • Half Day: $80
    • Full Day: $120
    • 2 days: $200
    • One Week: $500

5. Use of E‑Bikes

Permitted riding areas: Beach use only from Kite surf beach, sealed roads, and gravel roads, cycling track. Not suitable for mountain bike park.

Unless otherwise agreed, the following are strictly prohibited:

  • Reckless or dangerous riding
  • Riding under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Riding in unsafe weather or hazardous conditions
  • Racing, stunts, or commercial use

6. Payments & Security Deposit

  • A $350 security deposit is required per bike.
  • The deposit is taken at the time of booking.
  • The deposit will be refunded at the time of return, provided the e‑bike and accessories are returned in the same condition as hired, fair wear and tear excepted.

Payment methods accepted:

  • Online payments
  • Cash

7. Damage, Loss & Theft

The customer is fully responsible for the e‑bike and all accessories during the hire period.

The customer is liable for:

  • Any damage to the e‑bike
  • Theft or loss of the e‑bike
  • Lost keys, chargers, or accessories

Maximum liability amount: $5000

Repair or replacement costs may be deducted from the security deposit, with any additional costs payable by the customer.


8. Safety & Briefing

  • A safety briefing will be provided prior to hire.
  • Customers must follow all instructions provided by SunCamel staff.
  • The customer acknowledges that riding an e‑bike involves inherent risks.

9. Cancellations, Refunds & No‑Shows

  • Cancellation period for refunds: 100% refund – 24 hours, 50% refund 4 hours, 0% refund <4 hours
  • Weather‑related cancellations: 100% refund, only for dangerous weather.
  • No‑show policy: 0% refund

SunCamel reserves the right to cancel a hire due to unsafe conditions or circumstances beyond our control.


10. Acknowledgement of Risk & Liability Waiver

By hiring an e‑bike, the customer:

  • Accepts full responsibility for their safety
  • Acknowledges the risks associated with e‑bike use
  • Agrees to ride at their own risk

To the fullest extent permitted by New Zealand law, SunCamel Limited is not liable for any injury, loss, damage, or expense arising from the use of the e‑bike, except where caused by our negligence.


11. Photography & Marketing

SunCamel may use photos or videos taken during the hire period for marketing and promotional purposes, unless the customer requests otherwise in writing.


12. Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of New Zealand. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of New Zealand courts.
